How to Use This Worksheet

Five pages of the same activity, each with eight new numbers from 10 to 90. The number is printed in the gray box in the middle of each row; students write 10 less and 1 less to its left, and 1 more and 10 more to its right. Some numbers end in 0, so 1 less crosses back over a ten (1 less than 70 is 69). No number printed on a page is the answer to another row on that page. The answer keys follow the five worksheets. To make more pages like these, or with hundreds chart pieces, arrow paths, sentences or base-ten blocks, open the 10 More and 10 Less worksheet maker.

Tips for Success

  • For 10 more or 10 less, look at the tens digit: it goes up or down by one, and the ones digit stays the same
  • For 1 more or 1 less, the ones digit changes; watch for numbers ending in 0 or 9
  • Keep a hundreds chart nearby at first: right is 1 more, down is 10 more
  • Say each answer aloud as a sentence: 10 more than 47 is 57
