Five pages of double-digit column practice, adding and subtracting two-digit numbers within 100 the written way. Page 1 adds with no regrouping: ten column problems, then five problems written across that students rewrite in a tens and ones frame before they add. Page 2 is fifteen addition problems that make a new ten; the key shows each carried 1 over the tens. Page 3 subtracts: five problems with no trade, then ten that need a ten traded for 10 ones; the key crosses out the tens digit and writes the new tens and ones above. Page 4 mixes the two: students look at the sign and the ones, circle yes or no for "Trade?", then solve, and finish with three subtraction problems they check by adding. Page 5 has missing digits to find, two short word problems, and a "Who is right?" problem where one animal took the smaller digit from the bigger one. Each page starts with a worked example.
Before page 2, write 38 + 47 on the board and add the ones together first: 15 ones. Ask what 10 of those ones can become (a new ten) before anyone writes the carried 1. Page 4 makes a good warm up on its own: read a problem aloud and have students show thumbs up if it needs a trade, then explain how they knew from the ones digits alone.
Use prices or scores: you have 64 points and lose 27, how many are left? Ask your child to look at the ones first and say whether a trade is needed, then solve. Checking by adding (37 + 27 = 64) shows them they got it right without asking you.
