Six pages of subtraction practice with Halloween pictures along the bottom. Page 1 is a timed drill of 36 subtraction facts within 20 in digit boxes; page 2 mixes adding and subtracting, so students have to watch the signs. Page 3 starts with a row to answer, then four rows with a missing number in a box. Page 4 shows equal jumps back, like 25, 17, 9, and asks for the start number and how much is subtracted each time. Pages 5 and 6 practice subtracting with 6 and with 8, then end with two fact family triangles.
Run the timed pages as a quick warm-up and let students track their own times. Before page 2, remind everyone to circle or point to the sign first. The jump and fact family pages make a good small-group lesson on how adding and subtracting are related.
Time page 1 one day and page 2 the next. If a subtraction fact is hard, turn it into adding: for 15 minus 9, ask what goes with 9 to make 15.
