  • Understand part-part-whole relationships
  • Build addition and subtraction connections
  • Develop number sense for small numbers
  • Practice mental math strategies

How to Use This Worksheet

Each number bond diagram shows a whole number connected to two parts. One number is missing. Students figure out what number completes the bond, building foundational understanding of how numbers can be broken apart.

In the Classroom

Use during math centers or small group instruction focused on number decomposition. Pair with manipulatives - snap cubes work especially well for modeling number bonds physically.

At Home

Use real objects to model: "I have 5 grapes. If I put 3 on this plate, how many go on the other plate?" Then have your child fill in the matching problem on the worksheet.

Tips for Success

  • Use snap cubes or counters to model each bond
  • Remind students the two parts always add up to the whole
  • Encourage checking by adding the two parts together
  • Point out that this is just another way to show addition

Common Core Standards Alignment

This worksheet supports the following Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

  • K.OA.A.3 - Decompose numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs
  • K.OA.A.5 - Fluently add and subtract within 5
