Six pages, each built on a cheerful turkey and its fan of tail feathers. Page 1 counts the feathers on four turkeys (3 to 10). On page 2 each turkey wears a number, and students draw that many feathers. Page 3 shows plain and spotted feathers: count each kind and write the number sentence, like 3 + 4 = 7. Page 4 asks how many more feathers make 10, with a ten frame to fill. Page 5 is number bonds: the two feathers make the number on the turkey, with one worked example. Page 6 is cut and glue: cut out eight feathers with facts and glue the five that make 8 onto the turkey.
Model page 2 on the board: read the number, then draw one feather at a time as the class counts. For page 3, give students two colors of paper feathers to build a turkey before they write the sentence. Page 6 makes a good center: students cut, check each fact with counters, and glue the matches.
Cut feathers from colored paper and make a turkey on the fridge. Each day, add or take away a feather and ask: how many now? How many more make 10?
