How to Use This Worksheet

Each row presents an addition equation with one number missing. Students figure out the missing number and write it in the blank. Some problems show the missing sum; others show a missing addend.

In the Classroom

Use after students are comfortable with picture-based addition. This abstract format requires students to think about number relationships without visual supports, building mental math skills.

At Home

If your child gets stuck, use fingers or small objects to model the problem. Hold up 4 fingers, then ask how many more to make 5. Then have them write the answer on the worksheet.

Tips for Success

• Start with problems where the sum is missing (easier)
• For missing addend problems, encourage counting up from the known number
• Use a number line or fingers as a backup strategy
