Five pages of copywork, five sentences a page: twenty-five short, true facts about animals, from a frog can jump far to beavers build dams with sticks. Each sentence is printed in dashed letters to trace on handwriting lines, with a line under it to write the sentence again on their own. Every sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a period, so children copy the whole sentence, not just its words.
Read the facts together first and talk about them: which animals have children seen? Copywork makes a calm start to the day or a handwriting center. Ask children to leave a finger space between words and to check the capital and the period when they finish each line.
Read each fact aloud, then let your child trace and write it. Look up one of the animals together and add a fact of your own.
