Five pages for building a paper gingerbread house. Page 1 is the house to color: the four walls in one strip with a door, windows and icing, the roof, and a chimney cut to sit on the roof's slope. Children cut on the solid lines, fold on the dotted lines, glue the end tab inside to close the walls, glue the roof on the gray gable tabs, then glue the chimney on the roof. Page 2 is the same house left plain to design. Page 3 has trees, gingerbread cookies, candy canes, lollipops and a fence to color and cut out; each stands on a tab that folds back. Page 4 has Santa waving, Santa with his sack, Santa in his sleigh, four elves at work, a reindeer and the North Pole, on tabs the same way, to visit the house. Page 5 is candy to glue on: gumdrops, peppermints, cookies, candy canes, a wreath for the door and icing for the roof edges.
Color everything before cutting: flat pieces are easier to color. Show the class one folded house first so they see how the walls make a box and the roof sits on the tabs. A glue stick works for the candy; the tabs hold best with tape or liquid glue. The finished houses and yards make a gingerbread village on a windowsill.
Build the house together: your child colors and cuts, you help with the folds and the gluing. Print the plain house too and let your child design a second one.
A paper gingerbread house to color, cut out, fold and glue together, with a plain one to design, stand-ups for the yard, Santa and his elves to visit, and candy to glue on. Children color the pieces, cut on the solid lines, fold on the dotted lines and build a house that stands.
