Features

  • 19 cards: 9 × 1 to 9 × 10, and each fact turned around
  • The fact on the front, stacked as in a column
  • The product on the back, with the fact small in the corner for sorting
  • A thick green frame on every front, so the cards are easy to turn the right way
  • Backs laid out to print double-sided, or the fronts and then the backs on a one-sided printer

Skills Covered

  • Know the 9 times table
  • Multiply by 9 quickly
  • Use turnaround facts (3 × 9 = 9 × 3)
  • Skip count by 9s
  • Check an answer on the back
  • Practice the facts a child misses

How to Use This Pack

Nineteen flash cards for the 9 times table, eight to a sheet: 9 × 1 to 9 × 10, each followed by its turnaround (9 × 6 and 6 × 9), so 9 × 9 comes once. Each front shows a fact stacked as in a column; its back shows the product, with the fact printed small in the corner for sorting. Print the pack double-sided and flip on the long edge: each back sheet is laid out mirrored, so every card's back lands behind its front. On a printer that prints one side, choose Fronts only under Print, put the printed sheets back in the paper tray, then choose Backs only. Fronts have a thick frame and backs a thin one, so a card turned the wrong way stands out.

In the Classroom

Partners take turns: one holds up a card, the other says the product, and the card is turned over to check. Sort the facts a child knows from the ones that need practice, and come back to the practice pile the next day. Skip counting by 9s out loud first is a good warm-up.

At Home

Five minutes a day goes further than an hour once a week. Start with the facts your child knows, then add two or three new ones each day.

Tips for Success

  • In times 9 the digits of the answer add to 9: 9 × 6 = 54
  • A turnaround fact has the same answer: 3 × 9 = 9 × 3
  • Skip count by 9s to find a fact you forget
  • Keep the cards a child misses in their own pile
  • Card stock makes the cards last
