How to Use This Pack

Ten coloring pages, one for each number from 1 to 10. In the middle of each page is a big bubble number with a dashed line, numbered start dots and arrows, so children trace it before they color it in. Its word sits under it in outline letters, and that many animals stand around the edge of the page: a giraffe for 1, two owls, three bears and on up to ten crabs. Children count the animals, color them, then color the number and the word. There is nothing to mark, so the pack has no answer keys.

In the Classroom

Hand out the page for the number of the day. Trace the number together first, then have children count the animals out loud, touching each one, before they color. Finished pages make a counting book or a number line on the wall, in order from 1 to 10.

At Home

Trace the number with your child, then count the animals together and color them. Ask which animal comes next and how many there might be on the next page.

Tips for Success

  • Trace the number before you color it
  • Start at the dot with the 1 in it
  • Count each animal once, then color it so you know it is counted
  • Color the word too, and say it out loud

Common Core Standards Alignment

This pack supports the following Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

  • K.CC.A.3 Write the numerals 0 to 20 and use a numeral to show how many objects are in a group, with 0 meaning none.
  • K.CC.B.4a Count objects by saying numbers in order and matching exactly one number to each object, none skipped or counted twice.
  • K.CC.B.4b Know the final number in a count gives the total, and the total stays the same however the objects are arranged or counted.
  • K.CC.B.5 Tell how many: up to 20 objects in a line, array or circle, or 10 scattered. Also count out a requested number up to 20.
