Five pages of word ladders, two ladders a page. Each ladder starts with a word at the bottom, such as hot. Between the rungs is a picture to name, a pot, by changing one letter of the word below, or two letter tiles that say which letter to change. Children write each word in the boxes, a letter a box, and climb to the top. Every picture is one children name the same way, and the first step of each page is done as an example.
Name every picture together before children start, so everyone uses the same word. Then ask: which sound is different? Children can tap the boxes as they say each sound. The tiles give a step where no picture fits.
Say the picture's name slowly with your child and ask which sound changed from the word below. Let them read the whole ladder back to you when they reach the top.
Word ladders with pictures for clues, three-letter words from hot to pot to pat. Children change one letter a step to name each picture, or as the letter tiles show.
