Five pages about the words that say where things are. Pages 1, 2 and 4 each show six pictures and two words to choose from: above or below (a cat on a table, a puppy under one, a car on a bridge and a turtle swimming under it), in front of or behind (animals by a box, a fence, a rock and a bush), and inside or outside (a cat in a box, a puppy in its doghouse, a frog by a bucket). Students circle the word that tells where the animal is; the first picture on each page is done as an example. Page 3 lines up toys and animals on a shelf: students circle the one between two pictures, or the 2 beside one. On page 5 the same animal is in three places around a table, a box, a bush, two trees, a doghouse and an umbrella, and students read the sentence and circle the one it tells about.
Play it first: put a teddy bear above, below, beside, in front of and behind a chair, and inside and outside a box, and let the class call out where it is. Then hide the bear and give clues with position words. Read the two words aloud for each picture on pages 1, 2 and 4, and read the sentences on pages 3 and 5 together before students circle.
Use position words through the day: the cup is on the table, the cat is under the bed, your shoes are beside the door. Play hide and seek with a small toy and give clues like "It is behind something soft." Let your child hide it next and give you the clues.
