Four pictures to color by code. Every space holds a problem with two two-digit numbers: students solve it, find the answer in the color key at the top, and color the space that color. Pages 1 and 2 are adding within 100: a walking turkey, then a roast turkey with cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes. Pages 3 and 4 are subtracting within 100: a pumpkin, then a gourd, a pumpkin pie and an acorn squash. Some problems need regrouping and some do not. A space too small for a problem in a row shows it in a column, or shows just its answer.
Students can work the problems on scrap paper or a whiteboard, by place value, on an open number line, or in columns. The pages make good early finisher work or a center in the week before Thanksgiving. Color the key's circles together before starting.
Ask your child to explain how they solved one problem: adding the tens, then the ones, is one good way. If a space turns out the wrong color, solve its problem again together.
