Five cut-and-glue sorts that introduce the Venn diagram with pictures instead of words. Each page has two overlapping circles and a strip of ten pictures with their names. Pictures that fit one rule go in that circle, pictures that fit both rules go in the middle, where the circles overlap. Pages 1 to 3 sort animals and things that fly, food and plant parts, and sports things and balls. Pages 4 and 5 sort space and things people make, then round things and food, and each adds one picture that fits neither rule and goes outside the circles, inside the box.
Do page 1 together on the board. Hold up each picture and ask two questions: Is it an animal? Can it fly? Two yes answers mean the middle. Then let students cut and sort on their own, and have partners check each other by reading one circle at a time. The penguin and the whale make good talking points.
Before gluing, lay the pictures out and sort them together. Ask your child to explain why a picture goes where it does. Afterward, sort real things around the house the same way: toys and things that are red, or food and things that are round.

A 5-page cut-and-glue Venn diagram pack for Kindergarten and 1st grade. Cut out ten pictures and glue each one in the right part of a two-circle Venn diagram: animals and things that fly, food and plant parts, sports and balls, space and things people make, round things and food. The last two pages add a picture that belongs in neither circle. Every page comes in color and in black and white. Answer keys included.
