Six winter pictures to color by code. Every space holds an adding or subtracting fact within 20: children solve it, find the answer in the color key at the top, and color the space that color. Some colors have two answers, and the snow has no problem and stays white. Pages 1 and 2 add (a snowman and a penguin), pages 3 and 4 subtract (a mug of hot cocoa and a snow globe), and pages 5 and 6 mix adding and subtracting (a hat and mittens, then a sled).
Use the pages for fact practice in the weeks after winter break, or as a math center. Color the key's circles first, so the colors are ready. Pages 5 and 6 make children read each sign before they solve.
Let your child solve a row, then color it, so the picture grows bit by bit. For a hard fact, make a ten: 8 + 5 is 8 + 2 + 3.
