One page to give on the first day of the unit on telling time, before any teaching. Its six questions are on what the unit builds on, all to the hour: the hour hand and the minute hand, reading a clock, drawing the hands, matching a digital clock, which of two things takes longer, and the day that comes next. It has a Score line, and the key names the lesson each question leads into. The unit review and the unit test are packs of their own.
Give the pre-check on the first day and sort the class by what they missed: a student who mixes up the hands needs a clock with movable hands for the first lessons, and one who cannot yet name the next day needs the days of the week on the wall. The last two questions lead into lessons only some states teach in 1st grade, so leave them out if yours does not. Telling time is new to many students, so a low score is no surprise; it shows where to start.
Use it to see what your child needs before the unit on telling time starts: look at a clock with hands together at each o'clock, and say the days of the week in order.

A check to give before the unit on telling time, on what the unit builds on. Students find the hour and minute hands, read and draw time to the hour, match a digital clock, tell which takes longer and name the next day.
