One page to give on the first day of the unit on adding and subtracting decimals, before any teaching. Its six questions are on the 4th grade skills the unit builds on: hundred grids as decimals, adding tenths and hundredths, adding and subtracting whole numbers in columns, estimating by rounding to hundreds, counting bills and coins, and a two-step story. It has a Score line, and the key names the lesson each question leads into. The unit review and the unit test are packs of their own.
Give the pre-check on the first day and sort the class by what they missed: a student who cannot yet read a hundred grid as a decimal needs grids for the first lesson, and one who regroups wrongly in columns needs that again before the decimal points are lined up. Nothing on the page adds two decimals in columns yet, so it shows where to start, not what the unit will teach.
Use it to see what your child needs before the unit starts: count the bills and coins in a wallet together, and ask how much more you would need to make the next whole dollar.

A check to give before the unit on adding and subtracting decimals, on the decimals, adding, subtracting and money it builds on. Students read hundred grids as decimals, add tenths and hundredths, add and subtract whole numbers in columns, estimate, count money and solve a two-step story.
