One page to give on the first day of the unit on measurement conversions, before any teaching. Its six questions are on the 4th grade measurement the unit builds on: metric length, mass and liquid volume in whole numbers, customary length in whole numbers, a whole number times a fraction, a story with feet and inches, and a ruler to the eighth inch. It has a Score line, and the key names the lesson each question leads into. The unit review and the unit test are packs of their own.
Give the pre-check on the first day and sort the class by what they missed: a student who does not yet know that 1 km = 1,000 m or 1 yd = 3 ft needs a facts chart for the first lessons, and one who misses 16 × 3/8 needs that practice before ounces become fractions of a pound. The ruler is at real size, so print at 100%. Nothing on the page converts a decimal or a fraction yet, so a low score is no surprise; it shows where to start.
Use it to see what your child needs before the unit starts: ask how many centimeters are in a meter and how many feet are in a yard, and measure a few small things with a ruler.

A check to give before the unit on measurement conversions, on the converting and measuring it builds on. Students change metric and customary units in whole numbers, multiply a whole number by a fraction, solve a story with two units and measure to the eighth inch.
