Forty-eight flash cards, eight to a sheet: 24 additions and 24 subtractions of fractions with the same denominator, halves to twelfths. Each front shows the problem; each back shows the answer over the same denominator, and then its simplest form or mixed number where that is different, such as 6/4 = 1 1/2. Print the pack double-sided and flip on the long edge: each back sheet is laid out mirrored, so every card's back lands behind its front. On a printer that prints one side, choose Fronts only under Print, put the printed sheets back in the paper tray, then choose Backs only. Fronts have a thick frame and backs a thin one, so a card turned the wrong way stands out.
Ask what stays the same (the denominator) and what changes (the numerators). Partners take turns solving a card and turning it over to check, and say the simplest form too. Drawing the fractions as strips helps a child see why the denominator does not change.
Do a few cards a day, adding first and then subtracting. Ask your child to say the answer, then whether it can be written a simpler way.

Flash cards for adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators, with the problem on the front and the answer on the back in simplest form. Students add or subtract the numerators, then turn the card over to check.
