Features

  • Every lesson of the unit, in the same kinds of question as the test
  • Match two rows to see which has fewer, count two groups and circle the one with more, and find the two groups with the same number
  • Circle the greater number, and write >, < or = between two numbers to 10
  • The last three questions (draw fewer dots than a group, put numbers in order, and first to tenth in a line of animals) are for the states that teach them
  • A small picture beside each question number, so the teacher can say "find the sun"
  • Answer keys name the lesson and skill of every question

How to Use This Pack

Two pages that go over the whole unit on comparing to 10, to do together the day before the test. Its 8 questions are the same kinds as the test's, in the same order, with other numbers, so nothing on the review is on the test. Read every question aloud: a small picture beside each question number (a sun, a moon, a car) lets you say "Find the sun. Draw lines to match." There is no Score line: it is practice, not a grade. The pre-check and the unit test are packs of their own.

In the Classroom

Do the review together the day before the test, at a table with counters out. Read a question, let children answer on their own, and stop on any that trip up more than a few. Questions 6 to 8 (draw fewer dots than a group, put numbers in order, first to tenth) are taught in Kindergarten in some states only: skip the ones your class does not learn. The keys name each question's lesson, so a question the class misses points to the lesson to go back to.

At Home

Use the review as practice before a test at school. Read each question aloud and let your child point and count out loud.

Tips for Success

  • Read every question aloud; children answer by circling, drawing lines or dots, or writing a number
  • Say the picture first: "Find the moon," then the question
  • A longer row does not always have more: let children match or count before they circle
  • Question 6 has many right answers; the key shows one and names the rest
  • Go back to the lesson the key names for a question the class misses

Common Core Standards Alignment

This pack supports the following Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

  • K.CC.C.6 Decide whether one group of up to 10 objects has more, fewer or the same as another, by matching or counting.
  • K.CC.C.7 Tell which of two written numerals from 1 to 10 is greater or less.
