How to Use This Pack

Ten exit tickets, one for each lesson of a Kindergarten unit on flat and solid shapes, in lesson order. Each page holds one lesson's ticket twice: copy the page, cut on the dashed line, and fourteen copies give a class of 28 a ticket each. Read each question aloud: a small picture beside the question number (a sun, a moon) lets you say "Find the sun. Circle every triangle." Children answer two questions, then circle a face beside the "I can" line, which you read to them.

In the Classroom

Give the tickets in the last five minutes of the lesson, at a table or on the rug with clipboards. Sort them into three piles (got it, almost, not yet) to plan tomorrow's small groups. Ticket 5.8 (the flat shape of a solid's face) is for Texas, which teaches it in Kindergarten. Point to the choices as you name them ("triangle, square, circle"). The unit test is a separate pack.

At Home

Use a ticket as a quick check after practicing together. Read the question aloud, and let your child trace the shapes with a finger and count the sides out loud.

Tips for Success

  • Read every question aloud; children answer by circling
  • Say the picture first: "Find the moon," then the question
  • Name each choice as you point to it, so no child has to read a word
  • A turned square is still a square; watch for children who call it a diamond
  • Keep each lesson's tickets to see who has caught up

Common Core Standards Alignment

This pack supports the following Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

  • K.G.A.1 Use shape names for everyday objects, and tell where things are with position words like over, under, next to and behind.
  • K.G.A.2 Name shapes correctly even when they are turned, tilted, bigger or smaller.
  • K.G.A.3 Tell whether a shape is flat (two-dimensional) or solid (three-dimensional).
  • K.G.B.4 Compare flat and solid shapes of any size or position, using everyday words for their sides, corners and other features.

Kindergarten Flat and Solid Shapes Exit Tickets

Kindergarten

Exit tickets for every lesson of a Kindergarten unit on flat and solid shapes, made to be read aloud: one page a lesson, with the same ticket twice to copy and cut apart. Each ticket has two picture questions, answered by circling, and ends with an "I can" line and three faces for children to circle. Children circle every triangle, circle, square or rectangle among turned, big and small shapes and look-alikes, find hexagons and squares that are turned, bigger or smaller, name the shape of a cookie and an envelope, find closed shapes and shapes with only straight sides, find every cylinder and cone, sort flat from solid, and circle the animal under the umbrella, behind the bush, inside the pool or between the bushes. Ticket 5.8 (the flat shape of a solid's face) is for Texas, which teaches it. A small picture beside each question number lets the teacher say "find the sun." Answer keys for every ticket.
