How to Use This Pack

Eight exit tickets, one for each lesson of a Kindergarten unit on numbers to 5, in lesson order. Each page holds one lesson's ticket twice, with room for big Kindergarten writing: copy the page, cut on the dashed line, and fourteen copies give a class of 28 a ticket each. Read each question aloud: a small picture beside the question number (a sun, a moon) lets you say "Find the sun. Count the giraffes." Children answer one or two questions, then circle a face beside the "I can" line, which you read to them.

In the Classroom

Give the tickets in the last five minutes of the lesson, at a table or on the rug with clipboards. Sort them into three piles (got it, almost, not yet) to plan tomorrow's small groups. Ticket 1.6 (seeing small amounts without counting) is for the states that teach it in Kindergarten. The unit test is a separate pack.

At Home

Use a ticket as a quick check after practicing together. Read the question aloud and let your child point and count out loud.

Tips for Success

  • Read every question aloud; children circle, write one number or draw a line
  • Say the picture first: "Find the moon," then the question
  • A number written backwards still shows the child knows how many: note it
  • Watch for children who count one picture twice
  • Keep each lesson's tickets to see who has caught up

Common Core Standards Alignment

This pack supports the following Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

  • K.CC.A.1 Say the numbers in order up to 100, counting by 1s and also by 10s.
  • K.CC.A.3 Write the numerals 0 to 20 and use a numeral to show how many objects are in a group, with 0 meaning none.
  • K.CC.B.4a Count objects by saying numbers in order and matching exactly one number to each object, none skipped or counted twice.
  • K.CC.B.4b Know the final number in a count gives the total, and the total stays the same however the objects are arranged or counted.
  • K.CC.B.5 Tell how many: up to 20 objects in a line, array or circle, or 10 scattered. Also count out a requested number up to 20.

Kindergarten Numbers to 5 Exit Tickets

Kindergarten

Exit tickets for every lesson of a Kindergarten unit on numbers to 5, made to be read aloud: one page a lesson, with the same ticket twice to copy and cut apart. Each ticket has one or two picture questions, answered by circling, writing one number or drawing a line, and ends with an "I can" line and three faces for children to circle. Children count up to 5 things, write 1 to 5 and 0, count out a number, match groups to numbers and fill in numbers in order. Ticket 1.6 (dice and five frames, seeing small amounts without counting) is for the states that teach it. A small picture beside each question number lets the teacher say "find the sun." Answer keys for every ticket.
