Twenty-six pages, one for each lowercase letter, and each page goes from big to small and from more help to less. The top rows have big bubble letters with a numbered dot where each stroke starts, arrows along the way and a dashed line down the middle, then the start dots only. The bubble letters are all drawn big, so the handwriting lines at the bottom show each letter at its real size: tall letters touch the top line, short ones stop at the dashed middle line, and g, j, p, q and y hang below the line.
Model the letter on lined chart paper, naming the lines as you go: "Start at the middle line, circle back, then up and down." Children trace the big bubble letter with a finger, then with a crayon along the dashed line, before they try it on the handwriting lines. Teach b and d on different days, and come back to them together once both are sure.
Trace the letter in the air together, then on the page, and say its sound each time your child finishes one. Find the letter in a favorite book: is it a tall letter, a short letter or one that hangs below the line?
Big bubble lowercase letters from a to z, one letter a page, each drawn the way it is written in ball-and-stick print with numbered start dots and arrows. Children trace inside the bubbles with a little less help on every row, then write the letter at its true size on handwriting lines.
