Five pages, eight words a page, taken from the 41 Dolch first grade words with no word used twice. Each row is a word and a box for each of its letters: children read the word, then copy it a letter to a box, which makes them look at every letter in order. The first row of each page is done as an example, and the answer keys fill every box.
Read the word together and count its letters before writing: the boxes should match. For words that are not spelled the way they sound, such as of, once and could, say the tricky letters out loud. To make it a spelling test, cover the words and read them aloud.
Spell each word out loud together, then have your child write it. Mix up a few letter tiles or magnets and build the word again.
Spelling the Dolch first grade sight words a letter at a time. Children read each word and write it again, one letter in each box.
