How to Use This Pack

Four pictures to color by number. Each space shows a number: children find it in the color key at the top, where its dots are beside it to count, and color the space that color. Pages 1 and 2 use the numbers 1 to 5: a turkey, then a pumpkin and an apple. Pages 3 and 4 use 6 to 10, with the dots in rows of five as on a ten frame: a turkey with its tail feathers spread, then cranberry sauce and a slice of pie.

In the Classroom

Read the key together first: point to each number, count its dots, and name its color. The color copy has the key's circles colored in for children who cannot read the color words yet; on the black-and-white copy, color the circles together before starting. The pages make a good Thanksgiving morning activity or math center.

At Home

Say each number aloud before coloring its spaces. Ask your child to find all the spaces with one number first, then the next, and count how many spaces each number has.

Tips for Success

  • Find the number in the key, then pick up that crayon
  • Count the dots when a number is new: 6 is 5 and 1 more
  • Color every space of one number before the next
  • A tiny space with no number: color it like the part it belongs to

Common Core Standards Alignment

This pack supports the following Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

  • K.CC.A.3 Write the numerals 0 to 20 and use a numeral to show how many objects are in a group, with 0 meaning none.
  • K.CC.B.4a Count objects by saying numbers in order and matching exactly one number to each object, none skipped or counted twice.
  • K.CC.B.4b Know the final number in a count gives the total, and the total stays the same however the objects are arranged or counted.
  • K.CC.B.5 Tell how many: up to 20 objects in a line, array or circle, or 10 scattered. Also count out a requested number up to 20.
