One page to give on the first day of the unit on measuring length, before any teaching. Its six questions are on what the unit builds on: longer, shorter and taller, ordering three things by length, counting the cubes along a key, and the heavier thing on a balance. It has a Score line, and the key names the lesson each question leads into. The unit review and the unit test are packs of their own.
Give the pre-check on the first day and sort the class by what they missed: a student who cannot yet tell longer from shorter needs real things side by side, ends lined up, for the first lessons, and one who miscounts the cubes needs cubes in hand to lay along things. The last question (the heavier thing on a balance) leads into a lesson only some states teach in 1st grade, so leave it out if yours does not. The questions are the unit's easiest, so a low score is no surprise; it shows where to start.
Use it to see what your child needs before the unit on measuring length starts: lay two spoons or pencils side by side with the ends lined up, and ask which is longer.

A check to give before the unit on measuring length, on what the unit builds on. Students circle the longer, shorter, taller and heavier thing, put three things in order and count the cubes along a key.
