One page to give on the first day of the unit on money and patterns, before any teaching. Its eight questions are on what the unit builds on: finding coins, which coin is worth more, counting pennies, counting by 5s and 10s, income and needs, and repeating and growing patterns. It has a Score line, and the key names the lesson each question leads into. The unit review and the unit test are packs of their own.
This unit comes from state standards, so leave out the questions that lead into lessons your state does not teach (questions 5 and 6 lead into the Texas money lessons) and score out of the rest. Give the pre-check on the first day and sort the class by what they missed: a student who mixes up the coins needs real coins in hand for the first lessons, and one who cannot yet count by 5s and 10s needs counting practice beside the unit.
Use it to see what your child needs before the unit on money and patterns starts: sort a handful of coins by kind and name each one, and make a pattern with spoons and forks for your child to continue.
This pack supports the following Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

A check to give before the unit on money and patterns, on what the unit builds on. Students find coins and tell which is worth more, count pennies, count by 5s and 10s, pick out income and needs, and continue patterns.
