One page to give on the first day of the money unit, before any teaching. Its six questions are on what the unit builds on: naming coins, counting dimes, nickels and pennies, counting by 5s and 10s, adding and subtracting within 100, coin trades, and spend, save or share. Coins are drawn from real money pictures, at their true sizes next to each other. It has a Score line, and the key names the lesson each question leads into. The unit review and the unit test are packs of their own.
Give the pre-check on the first day and sort the class by what they missed: a student who cannot yet tell the coins apart needs play coins in hand from the first lesson, and one who misses counting by 5s and 10s needs that practice before counting coins. Nothing on the page asks for bills yet, so a low score is no surprise; it shows where to start.
Use it to see what your child needs before the money unit starts: sort a handful of coins by kind, name each one, and count the dimes, nickels and pennies together.

A check to give before the money unit, on what the unit builds on. Students find coins by name, count dimes, nickels and pennies, count by 5s and 10s, add and subtract within 100, trade coins for the same amount and sort spending, saving and sharing.
