One page to give on the first day of the unit on telling time, before any teaching. Its six questions are on the 1st grade time the unit builds on: the two hands, reading and drawing hours and half hours, counting by 5s, half past in words and 1 hour later. It has a Score line, and the key names the lesson each question leads into. The unit review and the unit test are packs of their own.
Give the pre-check on the first day and sort the class by what they missed: a student who mixes up the hour hand and the minute hand needs a clock with hands in reach from the first lesson, and one who misses counting by 5s needs that practice before reading the minutes. Nothing on the page asks for times to five minutes yet, so a low score is no surprise; it shows where to start.
Use it to see what your child needs before the unit on telling time starts: look at a clock with hands together at the hour and the half hour, and count by 5s to 60.

A check to give before the unit on telling time, on the hours and half hours it builds on. Students find the hour hand and the minute hand, read and draw half past times, count by 5s, name a half hour in words and find the time 1 hour later.
