Five pages on sums where the ones make a new ten and the tens, with that new ten, make a new hundred. Page 1 asks students to think before they add. Page 2 asks which sums need two trades, then shows both trades with blocks, a chart and the column. Page 3 works two sums one place at a time. Page 4 mixes sums with one trade, two trades or none, and page 5 asks students to find and explain mistakes and make a sum of their own.
Build 268 + 157 with blocks: trade the ones first, then count the tens again before trading them. Students who forget the new ten are the most common case; ask "Where is the ten you made from 15 ones?" Page 4 works well as a sort before anyone adds: ones only, tens only, both or none.
Ask your child which places will trade before they add, and why. Saying "9 tens and 1 more ten make 10 tens, a new hundred" out loud helps.

Three-digit addition with two trades in one sum: 10 ones make a ten, and then 10 tens make a hundred. Students spot which places will trade before they add, work one place at a time and find mistakes in other students' work.
