One page to give on the first day of the unit on data and line plots, before any teaching. Its six questions are on the 2nd grade data it builds on: picture and bar graphs where each picture or square is 1, how many more, measuring to the whole inch, and line plots in whole inches. It has a Score line, and the key names the lesson each question leads into. The unit review and the unit test are packs of their own.
Print at 100% (actual size) so the ruler measures true inches. Give the pre-check on the first day and sort the class by what they missed: a student who misses the graphs needs graphs where each picture is 1 again before a key of 2, 5 or 10, and one who misses the ruler needs to line up the end of a thing with 0 before measuring to half and quarter inches. Nothing on the page has a key or a scale other than 1 yet, so a low score is no surprise; it shows where to start.
Use it to see what your child needs before the unit starts: count things at home (spoons, socks, toys) and make a picture graph of them, and measure a few things to the nearest inch.

A check to give before the unit on scaled graphs and line plots, on the graphs and measuring it builds on. Students read a picture graph and a bar graph where each picture or square is 1, answer a how many more question, measure to the whole inch, and read and make a line plot in whole inches.
