How to Use This Pack

Two pages that go over the whole unit on division, to do together the day before the test. Its 12 questions are the same kinds as the test's, in the same order, with other numbers. There is no Score line: it is practice, not a grade. The pre-check and the unit test are packs of their own.

In the Classroom

Do the review together the day before the test, with counters and paper plates out for sharing and grouping. Work a question, then let students try the next one on their own, and stop on any that trip up more than a few. The keys write one fact family in one order; the four facts in any order are right. The keys name each question's lesson, so a question the class misses points to the lesson to go back to.

At Home

Use the review as practice before a test at school. Share snacks equally on plates, or put socks into pairs, and ask how many each one gets or how many groups there are. Then ask for the multiplication fact that checks it.

Tips for Success

  • Sharing asks how many in each group; grouping asks how many groups
  • Think of the multiplication fact: 30 ÷ 5 is the missing factor in □ × 5 = 30
  • Any number divided by 1 is that number; 0 divided by any number is 0
  • Keep counters and paper plates out
  • Go back to the lesson the key names for a question the class misses

Common Core Standards Alignment

This pack supports the following Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

  • 3.OA.A.2 Understand a quotient as either the size of each equal share or the number of equal groups, such as 24 ÷ 6.
  • 3.OA.A.3 Solve story problems about equal groups, arrays and measurements by multiplying or dividing within 100, using drawings and equations.
  • 3.OA.A.4 Solve for the missing number in multiplying or dividing equations, such as 7 × ? = 42 or ? ÷ 3 = 6.
  • 3.OA.B.6 Treat division as finding a missing factor: solve 35 ÷ 5 by asking what times 5 equals 35.
  • 3.OA.C.7 Multiply and divide to 100 fluently with strategies, and by year's end instantly recall every product of two single-digit numbers.
  • 3.OA.D.8 Solve two-step story problems with +, −, × and ÷, using a letter for the missing amount, and check answers by estimating or rounding.

3rd Grade Division Unit Review

A review of the unit on division, to go over together the day before the test. Students share and group pictures, name the parts of a division sentence, divide with arrays and jumps back to 0, find missing factors and numbers, write a fact family, answer facts and solve division stories.
