One page to give on the first day of the unit on place value, rounding and estimating, before any teaching. Its six questions are on the 2nd grade place value, comparing and number lines the unit builds on: base-ten blocks in a place value table, expanded form, comparing three-digit numbers, counting by tens across a hundred, and reading number lines. It has a Score line, and the key names the lesson each question leads into. The unit review and the unit test are packs of their own.
Give the pre-check on the first day and sort the class by what they missed: a student who misses the blocks or expanded form needs base-ten blocks in hand for the first lessons, and one who misses the number lines needs practice finding tens and hundreds on a line before rounding, which asks which ten or hundred a number is closest to. Nothing on the page asks for rounding yet, so a low score is no surprise; it shows where to start.
Use it to see what your child needs before the unit on rounding starts: count by tens past a hundred together (380, 390, 400, 410) and ask which of two numbers is bigger and how they know.

A check to give before the unit on place value and rounding, on the place value, comparing and number lines it builds on. Students fill in a place value table for base-ten blocks, write expanded form, compare three-digit numbers, count by tens across a hundred and find numbers on number lines.
