How to Use This Pack

Nine exit tickets, one for each lesson of a 4th grade unit on times as many, factors and multiples, in lesson order. Each page holds one lesson's ticket four times: copy the page, cut on the dashed lines, and seven copies give a class of 28 a ticket each. A ticket takes a few minutes at the end of the lesson. Students answer two questions, then circle a face beside the lesson's "I can" line to show how sure they feel.

In the Classroom

Hand out the tickets in the last five minutes of the lesson and collect them at the door. Sort them into three piles (got it, almost, not yet) to plan tomorrow's small groups. The faces show how students feel about the lesson, the answers show what they can do; the two do not always agree. Ticket 3.1 is for Florida, Oklahoma and Virginia, and ticket 3.9 for Virginia; skip them elsewhere. Factor pairs can be written in either order; the keys show one way. The unit test is a separate pack, and no ticket asks one of its problems.

At Home

Use a ticket as a quick check after practicing a skill together. Ask your child for a factor pair of a number on a page of a book, and whether the number is prime.

Tips for Success

  • Have students draw a strip diagram before solving a comparison story
  • Ask "add or multiply?" for each comparison
  • Find factor pairs in order, starting with 1
  • Remember that a prime number has exactly two factors
  • Keep the tickets for each lesson to see who has caught up

Common Core Standards Alignment

This pack supports the following Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

  • 3.OA.C.7 Multiply and divide to 100 fluently with strategies, and by year's end instantly recall every product of two single-digit numbers.
  • 4.OA.A.1 Read a multiplication equation as a comparison (24 = 3 × 8: 24 is 3 times as many as 8) and write comparisons as equations.
  • 4.OA.A.2 Multiply or divide to solve story problems that compare amounts (times as many), using drawings and equations, and tell them apart from comparing by adding.
  • 4.OA.B.4 For numbers 1 to 100, list factor pairs, spot multiples of one-digit numbers, and sort numbers into prime and composite.
