One page to give on the first day of the unit on multiplying multi-digit numbers, before any teaching. Its six questions are on the 3rd grade skills the unit builds on: the multiplication facts, expanded form (an area model splits a number the same way), the tens and hundreds in a number, adding (to add partial products), rounding to the nearest hundred (to estimate), and a story inside the facts. It has a Score line, and the key names the lesson each question leads into. The unit review and the unit test are packs of their own.
Give the pre-check on the first day and sort the class by what they missed: a student who is slow on the facts needs a fact chart or daily practice beside the unit, and one who misses expanded form or the tens in a number needs base-ten blocks for the first lessons. Nothing on the page asks for multi-digit multiplying yet, so a low score is no surprise; it shows where to start.
Use it to see what your child needs before the unit starts: practice the facts a few minutes a day, and break numbers into hundreds, tens and ones together.

A check to give before the unit on multiplying multi-digit numbers, on the 3rd grade skills it builds on. Students answer multiplication facts, write numbers in expanded form, count tens and hundreds, add, round to the nearest hundred and solve a story.
