One page to give on the first day of the unit on solid figures and volume, before any teaching. Its six questions are on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade work the unit builds on: counting square units, rows times squares in a row, multiplying three numbers, two-digit products, the perimeter of a rectangle, and naming the shapes of a solid's faces. It has a Score line, and the key names the lesson each question leads into. The unit review and the unit test are packs of their own.
Give the pre-check on the first day and sort the class by what they missed: a student who cannot count square units or see rows of squares needs unit cubes and grid paper before layers of cubes, and one who misses the products needs them before the volume formulas. Nothing on the page asks for a volume yet, so a low score is no surprise; it shows where to start.
Use it to see what your child needs before the unit starts: cover a book with sticky notes to count its area, then stack a few books and talk about how much space the stack takes up.

A check to give before the unit on solid figures and volume, on the area, multiplying and solid shapes it builds on. Students count square units, multiply rows by squares in a row, multiply three numbers and two-digit numbers, find a perimeter, and name the shapes of the faces of solids.
