Six pages of gingerbread house building. Page 1 is Roll and Build a Gingerbread House, a dice game for two: each number on the die builds a part (1 the walls, 2 the roof, 3 the door, 4 the windows, 5 the icing, 6 the candy), traced on a dashed house, with a tally mark for every roll. Page 2 has three houses, each with three numbers to 20 to cut out and glue on its window, door and window, smallest on the left. Page 3 has two houses with a space for each candy: every gumdrop and peppermint to cut out has an adding fact within 10, and it is glued where its answer is. Page 4 gives every roof ten gumdrops, five up each side: draw the missing ones and write how many more. Page 5 puts ten gumdrops on every roof and some peppermints on the walls: 10 and some more is a number to 19. Page 6 is page 2 again with numbers to 100.
Play page 1 in pairs at a math center, then ask who needed the most rolls and which part was hardest to get. Before pages 2 and 6, line up three number cards on the board and ask which is smallest and which is biggest. On page 3 the gumdrops of both houses are the same shape, and so are the peppermints, so children have to add to know where each candy belongs. Page 5 goes well with a real ten frame: fill it with ten counters for the roof, then count on for the peppermints.
Play the dice game together and count the tally marks at the end. On page 4, count the gumdrops up one side of the roof and down the other, then count on to 10 for the missing ones.
