Seven pages on a 0 to 20 coordinate grid. Pages 1 to 6 are mystery pictures: each lists its ordered pairs in columns, part by part. Students plot the points of a part in order, joining each to the one before, and lift the pencil at STOP before starting the next part at START. When every part is drawn, the picture appears: a Christmas tree with its star, a stocking, a candy cane, a bell, a gift with a bow and a gingerbread cookie. Students write what they drew and color it in. Page 7 works the other way round: a star is drawn on the grid, and students write the ordered pair of each of its ten lettered corners, then find how far apart three pairs of corners are. The answer keys show each finished picture colored in.
Plot the first part of page 1 together on the board: start at the origin, go across to the first number, then up to the second, and join each new point to the last one. Remind students to tick each pair as they plot it. Early finishers can design their own Christmas picture on graph paper and write its ordered pairs for a partner to plot.
Do one part at a time, reading each ordered pair aloud while your child plots it, then swap jobs. Guess what the picture is after each part, and color it in at the end.

Christmas mystery pictures hidden in the first quadrant of a coordinate grid: a tree, a stocking, a candy cane, a bell, a gift and a gingerbread cookie. Students plot each list of ordered pairs in order and join the points to find the picture, then write the ordered pairs of a star's corners.
