Nine pages on digraphs, two letters that make one sound: sh as in ship, ch as in chair, th as in thumb and wh as in wheel, with ck at the end of words like duck. Children circle the sound each picture has, sort pictures by sound, and write the two letters that start or end a word. Then they read words and match them to pictures, circle the right word (ship, not sip or chip), build words from letter tiles, follow the sh words through a maze and play roll and read.
Give each sound an action first: a finger to the lips for sh, a sneeze for ch, the tongue between the teeth for th. On the circle the word page, read the wrong words aloud too, so children hear how ship and sip differ.
Go on a sound hunt around the house: shoes, a chair, a toothbrush, a clock. Say each name together and listen for sh, ch, th or ck.
