How to Use This Pack

Four pages of nonstandard measurement with a fall theme. Each object stands next to a stack of acorns, and every acorn in the pack is the same size, so students count acorns to find how tall things are. Pages 1 and 2 measure, page 3 compares two objects, and page 4 puts three in order.

In the Classroom

Start with real counters: stack cubes or real acorns next to a classroom object, then move to the worksheet. The compare and order pages lead into a whole-class talk about why the units must be the same size and touch end to end.

At Home

Count the acorns from the bottom up with your child. After the worksheet, measure a cup or a toy with coins or blocks the same way.

Tips for Success

• Count from the ground line up so no acorn is skipped
• Point out that the acorns touch with no gaps
• On the order page, find the shortest first, then the tallest
• Color the pictures when the page is done
