Five pages of spelling practice with the Dolch first grade sight words. The words are traced three times, each in a crayon color, after an example. Then they come with letters left out, to fill in from a word bank, and with their letters mixed up, to put in order and write: no mix-up is ever another word. The words are written in ABC order, and the last page is a spelling test: numbered lines for children, and the words on the answer key for the teacher to read aloud.
Use the pages through a week: rainbow writing on Monday, missing letters and scrambles midweek, ABC order, then the test on Friday. Read each test word, use it in a sentence, and read it again. Words such as once, could and know have letters you cannot hear: point them out before the test.
Give your child three crayons for the rainbow page. Before the test, spell the tricky words out loud together and write them in the air.
