How to Use This Pack

Four Halloween graphing pages. Each one starts with a Halloween-night picture to count. On pages 1 and 2, students color one box on the graph for each picture of three kinds, then answer four questions. Pages 3 and 4 have four kinds of pictures and add a tally chart before the graph.

In the Classroom

Model page 1 together: count the ghosts, cross each one off, and color that many boxes. Then let students try page 2 on their own or with a partner. Pages 3 and 4 work well in a math center the week of Halloween.

At Home

Have your child cross off each picture as they count it so none are counted twice. Ask them to explain the graph out loud: which column is tallest, and what does that tell you?

Tips for Success

• Cross off or dot each picture in the scene as it is counted
• Color from the bottom of each column up, one box per picture
• For "how many more," compare the two columns box by box
• Save the coloring of the pictures for after the graph is done

• K.MD.B.3 - Classify objects into given categories; count the numbers of objects in each category and sort the categories by count
• K.CC.B.5 - Count to answer "how many?" questions about as many as 20 things
• 1.MD.C.4 - Organize, represent, and interpret data with up to three categories; ask and answer questions about how many in each category and how many more or less are in one category than in another
