How to Use This Pack

Eight exit tickets, one for each lesson of a Kindergarten unit on sorting, counting and graphing, in lesson order. Each page holds one lesson's ticket twice, with room for big Kindergarten writing: copy the page, cut on the dashed line, and fourteen copies give a class of 28 a ticket each. Read each question aloud: a small picture beside the question number (a sun, a moon) lets you say "Find the sun. Circle all the small cats." Children answer one or two questions, then circle a face beside the "I can" line, which you read to them.

In the Classroom

Give the tickets in the last five minutes of the lesson, at a table or on the rug with clipboards. Sort them into three piles (got it, almost, not yet) to plan tomorrow's small groups. Tickets 3.5 to 3.8 (reading a picture graph, making one, counting the answers to a question and reading a T-chart) are for the states that teach them in Kindergarten. The unit test is a separate pack.

At Home

Use a ticket as a quick check after sorting toys or snacks together. Read the question aloud and ask your child to name each picture before sorting or counting.

Tips for Success

  • Read every question aloud; children circle, write one number, draw an X or draw a line
  • Say the picture first: "Find the moon," then the question
  • Before a sort, name the pictures together: is it an animal, food or a toy?
  • Ask "Why does it not belong?" to hear the rule a child used
  • Keep each lesson's tickets to see who has caught up

Common Core Standards Alignment

This pack supports the following Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

  • K.MD.B.3 Sort objects into named groups, count each group (up to 10), and order the groups by how many they hold.
  • 1.MD.C.4 Sort and show data in up to three groups, then answer questions about the total, each group's count, and how groups differ.

Kindergarten Sort, Count and Graph Exit Tickets

Kindergarten

Exit tickets for every lesson of a Kindergarten unit on sorting, counting and graphing, made to be read aloud: one page a lesson, with the same ticket twice to copy and cut apart. Each ticket has one or two picture questions, answered by circling, writing one number, drawing an X or drawing a line, and ends with an "I can" line and three faces for children to circle. Children sort pictures by size and by kind, find the one that does not belong, sort a pile and count each group, and find the group with the most and the fewest. Tickets 3.5 to 3.8 (reading a picture graph, making one, counting the answers to a question and reading a T-chart) are for the states that teach them. A small picture beside each question number lets the teacher say "find the sun." Answer keys for every ticket.
