How to Use This Pack

Ten exit tickets, one for each lesson of a Kindergarten unit on subtraction within 10, in lesson order. Each page holds one lesson's ticket twice, with room for big Kindergarten writing: copy the page, cut on the dashed line, and fourteen copies give a class of 28 a ticket each. Read each question aloud: a small picture beside the question number (a sun, a moon) lets you say "Find the moon. 10 penguins stand on the ice." Children answer two questions, then circle a face beside the "I can" line, which you read to them.

In the Classroom

Give the tickets in the last five minutes of the lesson, at a table or on the rug with clipboards. Sort them into three piles (got it, almost, not yet) to plan tomorrow's small groups. Tickets 7.5 (subtracting on a number path) and 7.10 (subtraction facts to 10) are for the states that teach them in Kindergarten. Ticket 7.7 has an adding story and a take away story, to see who listens for "more come" before choosing the sign. The unit test is a separate pack.

At Home

Use a ticket as a quick check after practicing together. Read the question aloud and let your child act out the story with small toys or fingers.

Tips for Success

  • Read every question aloud; children cross out, draw dots, circle a sign or write one number
  • Say the picture first: "Find the moon," then read the story
  • On ticket 7.6, a child may draw the dots in any order: count them with the child
  • Watch for children who count the crossed out pictures too
  • Keep each lesson's tickets to see who has caught up

Common Core Standards Alignment

This pack supports the following Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

  • K.OA.A.5 Add and subtract quickly and accurately with numbers up to 5.

Kindergarten Subtraction Within 10 Exit Tickets

Kindergarten

Exit tickets for every lesson of a Kindergarten unit on subtraction within 10, made to be read aloud: one page a lesson, with the same ticket twice to copy and cut apart. Each ticket has two picture or number questions, answered by crossing out, drawing dots, circling a sign or writing one number in a box, and ends with an "I can" line and three faces for children to circle. Children find how many are left when some are crossed out, act out take from stories by crossing out pictures, write the number sentence for a picture, take away in a ten frame, draw dots to solve a story, circle plus or minus for a story, and answer subtraction facts to 5 and a mix of adding and subtracting to 5. Tickets 7.5 (subtracting on a number path) and 7.10 (subtraction facts to 10) are for the states that teach them. A small picture beside each question number lets the teacher say "find the sun." Answer keys for every ticket.
