Five pages of sentence scrambles, four sentences to build on each after a worked example. Each sentence has a picture and a row of empty boxes, one for each word. At the bottom of the page, each sentence's words are mixed up on a numbered strip: children cut them apart, find the word with the capital letter to start and the word with the period to finish, and glue the words in order. The sentences use the Dolch pre-primer words and words children can sound out, and each goes together only one way.
Read the words on each strip together before cutting. Children can lay out all the words before gluing and read the sentence aloud to check it. Store each sentence's cut words in a small envelope if the activity spans two days.
Cut the strips together and let your child find the capital letter first. Ask them to read the finished sentence to you, pointing to each word.
Cut and paste sentences made of Dolch pre-primer sight words and words children can sound out. Children cut out the mixed-up words and glue them in order, using the capital letter and the period to start and finish.
