One page to give on the first day of the unit on adding and subtracting within 100, before any teaching. Its six questions are on what the unit builds on: 10 less and 10 more than a number of tens, a fact and the same fact in tens, adding a one-digit number with no new ten, addition facts past 10, hundreds chart pieces and a story that adds tens. It has a Score line, and the key names the lesson each question leads into. The unit review and the unit test are packs of their own.
Give the pre-check on the first day and sort the class by what they missed: a student who cannot yet find 10 more and 10 less needs a hundreds chart and base-ten blocks in hand for the first lessons, and one who misses the facts past 10 needs fact practice beside the unit. Read the story aloud for students who are still learning to read. The questions are the unit's easiest, so a low score is no surprise; it shows where to start.
Use it to see what your child needs before the unit on adding and subtracting within 100 starts: count by tens together, and ask what 10 more than 40 is, then 10 less.

A check to give before the unit on adding and subtracting within 100, on what the unit builds on. Students find 10 less and 10 more, solve a fact and the same fact in tens, add one-digit numbers and facts past 10, fill in hundreds chart pieces and solve a story.
