Seven pages for the unit on adding and subtracting within 1,000. Page 1 is a pre-check to give before the unit, on what it builds on: 10 more and 10 less, tens facts, reading base-ten blocks, expanded form, and adding and subtracting within 100. Pages 2 and 3 are a review to do together before the test. Pages 4 and 5 are the unit test, Form A. Pages 6 and 7 are Form B: the same questions in the same order with different numbers, for a retake, a make-up or a second seating. Each form has 12 questions, one point each, and a Score line on its first page.
Give the pre-check on the first day of the unit and sort the class by what they missed. Do the review the day before the test, with base-ten blocks on the tables. Questions 6 and 8 are three column problems each: give the point when all three are right, or score them by the problem if you like. Questions 11 and 12 (solving a story problem and writing a story for a number sentence) are taught in 2nd grade in some states: leave them out if your class does not learn them and score out of 10. The answer keys name each question's skill, write every carried 1 and traded digit, and cross out the blocks, so a missed question points to the lesson to reteach.
Use the review as practice before a test at school, or Form B as a check after the unit. Ask your child to say what they did in each place: did the ones make a new ten, or did they need to trade a ten for 10 ones?
