One page to give on the first day of the unit on counting and comparing to 1,000, before any teaching. Its six questions are on the 1st grade counting and comparing it builds on, and the place value of Unit 2: counting on past 100, counting by 10s, comparing and ordering two-digit numbers, a number line from one ten to the next, and three-digit numbers from hundreds, tens and ones and from expanded form. It has a Score line, and the key names the lesson each question leads into. The unit review and the unit test are packs of their own.
Give the pre-check on the first day and sort the class by what they missed: a student who stops at 100 when counting on needs a hundreds chart or a number line in reach for the first lessons, and one who misses the comparing needs base-ten blocks to compare tens first. The page stays with two-digit numbers but for the last question, so a low score is no surprise; it shows where to start.
Use it to see what your child needs before the unit on counting and comparing to 1,000 starts: count on together past 100, and ask which of two numbers is greater, and how your child knows.

A check to give before the unit on counting and comparing to 1,000, on what the unit builds on. Students count on past 100, count by 10s, compare and order two-digit numbers, fill in a number line and write three-digit numbers from their hundreds, tens and ones.
