One page to give on the first day of the unit on time, mass and liquid volume, before any teaching. Its six questions are on the 2nd grade skills the unit builds on: time to five minutes, elapsed whole and half hours, measuring with a ruler and reading a dial scale. It has a Score line, and the key names the lesson each question leads into. The unit review and the unit test are packs of their own.
Give the pre-check on the first day and sort the class by what they missed: a student who cannot yet read a clock to five minutes needs that before time to the minute, and one who misses the scale needs to count the ticks between the numbers before reading scales in grams and containers in liters. Nothing on the page asks for time to the minute, grams or liters yet, so a low score is no surprise; it shows where to start.
Use it to see what your child needs before the unit starts: read the kitchen clock together, ask what time it will be in two hours, and weigh something on a bathroom or kitchen scale.

A check to give before the unit on time, mass and liquid volume, on the time and measuring it builds on. Students read and draw clocks to five minutes, find elapsed whole and half hours, measure with an inch ruler and read a dial scale in pounds.
