Features

  • Two quick questions a ticket
  • An "I can" line and three faces for students to rate themselves
  • Make a line plot in eighths, writing its missing labels, then count from it
  • Subtract the shortest length from the longest, and add the two longest

How to Use This Pack

Eight exit tickets, one for each lesson of the 4th grade unit on data, line plots and probability, in lesson order. Each page holds one lesson's ticket four times: copy the page, cut on the dashed lines, and seven copies give a class of 28 a ticket each. A ticket takes a few minutes at the end of the lesson. Students answer two quick questions, then circle a face beside the lesson's "I can" line to show how sure they feel.

In the Classroom

Hand the tickets out in the last five minutes of the lesson and collect them at the door. Sort them into three piles (got it, almost, not yet) to plan tomorrow's small groups. Tickets 13.1 and 13.2 are the Common Core line plot lessons. The others are for the states that teach them in 4th grade: frequency tables (13.3: Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia), stem-and-leaf plots (13.4: Florida and Texas), scaled bar graphs (13.5: Georgia, Indiana, Oklahoma and South Carolina), line graphs (13.6: Virginia), outcomes and how likely (13.7: South Carolina and Virginia) and probability as a fraction (13.8: Virginia). The unit test is a separate pack.

At Home

Use a ticket as a quick check after practicing a skill together. Put letter tiles or coins in a bag and ask how likely it is to pick each one, then write the probability as a fraction.

Tips for Success

  • Write halves and quarters as eighths before plotting them
  • Put the leaves of a stem-and-leaf plot in order from least to greatest
  • Look at what each grid line counts by before reading a graph
  • A probability is the parts that fit over all the parts
  • Keep the tickets for each lesson to see who has caught up

Common Core Standards Alignment

This pack supports the following Common Core State Standards for Mathematics:

  • 3.MD.B.3 Make picture and bar graphs where each symbol or square stands for several items, and answer one- and two-step comparison questions from them.
  • 4.NF.B.3a Understand adding and subtracting fractions as joining and taking away parts of the same whole.
  • 4.NF.B.3c Add and subtract mixed numbers with the same denominator, for example by changing them to fractions or by using properties of operations.
  • 4.NF.B.3d Solve story problems that add or subtract fractions of the same whole with like denominators, using fraction models and equations.
  • 4.MD.B.4 Make a line plot of measurements in halves, quarters and eighths, and use it to solve problems that add and subtract fractions.

4th Grade Data and Probability Exit Tickets

Exit tickets for every lesson of a unit on line plots in eighths, data and probability. Each page holds one ticket four times to cut apart, with line plots to make and use, a frequency table, a stem-and-leaf plot, bar and line graphs, and spinners and tiles to find how likely an event is.
